Coastal Cleanup 2009 Results
At last year's California Coastal
Cleanup Day event in San Diego County, 10,283 volunteers came out to
help clean up local coastal and inland communities. These dedicated
volunteers removed 173,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from 165 miles of shoreline, including six cleanup sites across the border, a kayak site in Mission Bay, and four
underwater sites in San Diego Bay.
California Coastal Cleanup Day is organized
locally by San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love A Clean San Diego and
statewide by the California Coastal Commission and it takes place
throughout California in 48 counties. This year, 75,000 participants
removed over 1 million pounds of debris from 1,700 miles of
California coastal and inland areas.
